Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
An important official said the attack rendered him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
